In the meantime, I use a few audio interfaces and a mixing desk that and I reckon, having a laptop to be able to move to the console, or next the iMac or on the PC desk, the toilet, the bedroom, the balcony, the car.

One of them is the MPC-X with a USB-to-Ethernet adapter and synced to Renoise ( is wonderful). But Renoise and Ableton Link, means I can share the processing power (and phrases, XRNI and all the Renoise goodies) between machines on the ethernet network. The rest is not very important to me as I mostly don't use plugins. I started looking at the keyboard layouts and then the monitor screens to compare. This was the most appropriate laptop I found for Renoise use. Then, at some point, BUILD your own Renoise Library - instructions in the Renoise manual. Next time, though, you can load up the instrument and switch up the samples and add to the phrases and Build ON it or Build another FROM it. It is then, that you start organizing your instrument to become one and you patterns to become Phrases. It quickly becomes a mess, but you 're still under control. When you start a Renoise Song, at first you just fill it with a buch of samples as a separate instruments and you start writing stuff on the PAttern Editor. You will only need a few tracks this way and they will have #Instr. The Pattern editor will look like empty, because it plays back phrases instead.

You then use the Tracks differently, like FX chains, where depending on which track you write in, the sound goes through it's DSP devices. You ought to build your instruments - it's part of the workflow.

You can create a song with plugins, sidechains, groups, mixbuss and master channel, ALL within an instrument XRNI if you wanted. Then take all the patterns you made and make them phrases.
